Upneeq Eye Drop: Use-case, Symptoms, and Tips
before
after

What are Upneeq eye drops, and why would you need them? Did you know that thousands of Americans over 40 suffer from ptosis? Did you know that only 15% of those with ptosis have received a diagnosis? Worse, fewer than 10 percent of those with blepharoptosis have received treatment.

So what causes blepharoptosis and what is its relationship with Upneeq? Let’s find out.

What is Blepharoptosis?

Have you ever felt like you have sleepy, tired, or droopy eyelids? Then you may be experiencing blepharoptosis, ptosis for short, also known as low-lying lids. This is a condition where the eyelid becomes difficult to move and feels heavy and limp.

What Are Upneeq Eye Drops Used For?

Upneeq is an FDA-approved prescription eye drop for treating acquired blepharoptosis. It contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution for immediate relief and treatment.

Signs and Symptoms of Blepharoptosis

Low-lying lids occur once the eyelid muscle stretches and becomes weak. Once the eyelid loses elasticity, the upper eyelid begins to droop.

  • A low-lying lid may have links to ailments like stroke, myasthenia gravis, and eye infection.
  • Other related ailments include brain aneurysms, eye tumors, and Horner syndrome.

How Quickly Does Upneeq Work?

You will start to notice the effect within 15 minutes or less.

Common Medical Facts About Acquired Ptosis

  • Low-lying lids occur more often in people aged 50+ years.
  • Other likely causes of ptosis include contact lens wear and cataract surgery.
  • A low-lying lid could also indicate a more critical and underlying medical condition.

What Are the Side Effects of Upneeq Eye Drops?

  • Using Upneeq may affect your blood pressure if you have heart disease. Do you notice that you are feeling faint while at rest or when you stand up quickly? Do you experience uncontrolled low or high blood pressure? Please see your doctor immediately for likely tests and medication.
  • Using Upneeq sometimes results in eye pressure in some patients. It could be due to fluid buildup (angle-closure glaucoma) caused by untreated narrow-angle glaucoma. If you notice increased pressure around your eyes, please discontinue Upneeq and see your doctor immediately.
  • Patients with mouth or eye dryness, called Sjorgen syndrome, should seek a doctor’s advice before using Upneeq. Do you also notice reduced blood flow to the heart or brain? Then, you should see a doctor before the situation gets worse.
