Rosacea can cause symptoms such as frequent flushing of skin or redness. This is a chronic and progressive skin disease that primarily affects the facial area, but can also be observed on the neck, chest, and back. It commonly starts with frequent blushing or flushing and eventually causes skin to be red regularly. Other symptoms of this condition include thickening skin as well as breakouts.
There are four types of rosacea, divided into erythematotelangiectatic, papulopusular, phymatous, and ocular cases. Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea causes persistent flushing and redness, occasionally visible webs of blood vessels. Papulopustular rosacea can create instances of persistent red skin with bumps and pimples, or pusules.
Phymatous rosacea also creates thicker skin while enlarging the nose and surrounding tissue. Rhinophyma is an advanced type of phymatous rosacea and creates a yellow waxy appearance of the nose.
Since each patient may be experiencing a unique case of rosacea, the treatment plan must be customized for the specific individual. It may take some time to see improvements in the skin following treatment. However, the most important step is to recognize the problem and prevent it from worsening.
The Palomar ICON IPL Laser is the treatment of choice for patients looking to treat rosacea. It also provides additional benefits in that it improves skin and collagen production, helping to treat other imperfections such as fine lines, scars, and wrinkles.
Rosacea affects numerous patients and is a chronic condition that while not curable, can be managed and minimized with the proper level of care. To discuss available treatments for rosacea, please contact Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics and schedule an appointment.
