Restylane products provide great advantages in adding volume and fullness to the skin. This helps to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds or laugh lines), as well as below the nose, above the upper lip, corners of the mouth, and marionette lines. Juvederm, a ‘next generation’ FDA-approved dermal filler, consists of a gel developed from hyaluronic acid – which benefits your skin by adding volume and hydration. Juvederm is Ideal for softening deep smile lines from nose to the end of your lip. In addition, it has proven its capability in treating dark skin tones.
Today we’d like to take some time to give some advice to those of our patients who struggle with rosacea daily. This chronic skin condition seems to pop up at the most inconvenient times. Seems like triggers are always around the corner, and, what’s worse, there is still no cure for rosacea. Unless you plan to sit around and wait, there are things you can do at home that can help curb and control your rosacea. That is, things you can do at home in addition to enlisting the assistance of a medical aesthetics specialist like Not Just Faces.
Do you have skin prone to inflammation and uncontrollable flare-ups? Read on to find out some helpful pointers to get the red out, or at the very least keep rosacea breakouts in check.
Did you just put on facial moisturizer? If not, do it now. If so, do it again. Some of our rosacea patients have expressed hesitation when it comes to putting products on their skin out of fear of triggering their skin redness. Moisturizer is one product you can go crazy with, because it helps create a protective skin barrier which keeps out chemical toxins and mechanical irritants.
Keep a simple skincare routine. Limit the amount of products you use, and try to use products that incorporate the fewest, most effective ingredients. Products specifically designed for skin redness or sensitive skin are particularly helpful.
Sunscreen is so important. Cumulative sun damage has been consistently shown to play a role in rosacea. Sunscreen can actually help prevent rosacea in susceptible patients, and it can also reduce flare-ups in those who have it.
Do you get rosacea redness when you’re out in the sun or in the hot weather? Maybe when you have that extra margarita? Overexposure to the sun, temperature extremity, alcohol, some types of foods, and certainly stress can all play a role in intensifying rosacea. It’s important to know your body and to know your skin tendencies. That way you can avoid triggers. Your skin will thank you for it.

Summer is the season of the great outdoors. There are many fun outdoor activities associated with summer: hanging out on the beach, hiking, swimming. With all these activities come increased sun exposure, and without using sunscreen for protection, this season of fun can become the season of sun damage. This summer, make it your goal to say goodbye to sunspots with Not Just Faces’ IPL treatment for sun spot removal.
IPL, short for Intense Pulsed Light, is a form of laser treatment using a broad spectrum of carefully modulated light that targets a variety of skin ailments. IPL can treat:
This treatment is sometimes referred to as a “photofacial.” The laser light works beneath your skin to stimulate the formation of collagen, an important protein present in all our body’s connective tissue. New collagen means new, healthy skin, with a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Sun damage often leaves your skin with spots of irregular pigment. Fortunately, IPL can target those areas and affect full pigmentation removal.
The treatment is quick and comfortable. Our office uses the highly effective Palomar ICON Laser to administer the treatment. Simply lie back in a comfortable position while the doctor runs the handpiece over the targeted areas. Since IPL involves an intense, bright light, you will be provided with protective eyewear. It’s just like tanning on the beach, but with a laser light that restores and repairs your skin. Patients generally return for 3-4 treatment sessions spaced several weeks apart. You’ll soon see a noticeable difference in the quality and vitality of your skin.

You’ve probably heard about Botox on the news or in celebrity magazines. Botox has become a shorthand way to describe cosmetic surgery gone wrong, as in, “She got too much Botox.” However, many people misunderstand what Botox actually is, what it does, and its true benefits. When used properly and administered by a licensed practitioner, Botox reduces wrinkles and results in a healthy, natural look.
Botox is a type of protein that causes mild paralysis when injected or consumed. In small, safe quantities, it has many medical applications, including preventing muscle spasms, treating migraines and other forms of chronic pain, and calming hyperactive nerves. In its cosmetic application, Botox is injected into parts of the face to relax the skin and smooth wrinkles.
There are many factors that cause facial wrinkles, including sun exposure, smoking, and the natural loss of collagen during the aging process. Botox addresses one of the most important causes: repeated patterns of facial movement. When you frown or concentrate, wrinkles appear on your forehead and between your eyebrows. When you squint, wrinkles called crow’s feet appear on the sides of your eyes. Over many years, as you assume the same facial expressions, the same wrinkles become reinforced and eventually ingrained in your skin. By relaxing these facial muscles, Botox smooths the appearance of these wrinkles.
Botox is directly injected into the muscles that cause wrinkles. For crow’s feet, your Botox specialist targets the orbicularis oculi, the muscles that surround the sides of your eyes. For frown lines, your specialist injects five muscle sites in your forehead. You may feel a pinching sensation during each injection, which can be treated with ice or topical numbing cream.
The injection process takes only ten minutes with no downtime. You can resume normal activities immediately. You will see results in 24-48 hours which last up to four months. After that time, the Botox wears off and your muscles begin to contract, so the injections will need to be repeated.
Some patients worry that they will lose flexibility in facial expressions after repeated Botox treatments. However, a licensed, trained practitioner with expertise in facial anatomy will avoid these symptoms. When getting Botox injections, seek only experts with appropriate credentials and avoid cheap or discount products.
See past the hype around Botox and learn how this safe, easy treatment can improve your appearance by smoothing frown lines and crow’s feet. Call Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics to learn the real facts about Botox.
For most people, lasers are a thing of science fiction novels and James Bond movies. We use laser pointers more to trick animals than their original purpose for complementing presentations and lectures. However, people remain largely in the dark about laser beauty and skin treatments. Lasers are key for non-surgical, non-invasive, and minimally-invasive treatments that glean remarkable results without resorting to time under the knife.
A study out of Northwestern University expands upon the applications and side effects involved with lasers:
Lasers can treat acne without the involvement of anti-acne medications or oral antibiotics. The treatment takes at least two years, and acne resolution sustains over this period. Participants in the study experienced not only a 75% improvement regarding acne but also an 85% improvement in skin appearance.
At Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics, we employ the use of two types of lasers as viable options for our patients and our methods.
The first laser type we use is a Fractional Laser which is focused on the superficial layers of the skin. This effective laser stimulates the growth of new skin as well as the body’s natural collagen production process. It can be used for a variety of treatments for wrinkles, pigmentation, scars, pores, and other skin imperfections. This laser is used over a sequence of visits to achieve results custom-tailored to the individual. Our Fractional Laser allows our dermatologists to customize treatments for each unique patient. This laser can also be used on each unique area of the face. This type of laser allows the patient to heal at a rapid rate and involves lower risks than other treatments.
The second type of laser used at our practice for Photo Rejuvenation Therapy is our Intense Pulsed Light or IPL laser. The Palomar ICON Laser addresses and treats primary issues involved with aging, sun damage, and rosacea. This laser is a new breakthrough in dermatological technology. It is highly efficient and precise which maximizes the results that the patient wants. This treatment is not limited to the face and can be used for any area of your body. The Photo Rejuvenation process is quick, safe, and non-invasive. The last thing we want is our patients to be inconvenienced when it comes to treatment. You can get the treatment you need in a supportive environment, and then you can move on with your life!
By choosing Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics for your dermatological needs, you will have high-quality care that will leave your skin smoother, more youthful, and most radiant. To learn more about our services and our team, please contact our office to set up an initial consultation.
It is not uncommon to turn on the TV and see celebrities or characters at a spa with their faces covered in some kind of cream and cucumber slices cover their eyes. We find it comical because it is similar to a clown, but you might be surprised that such facial peels, or chemical peels, are quite helpful in the field of dermatology.
Maybe it is not a surprise because chemical peels have been used in some form for over thousands of years. Cleopatra was known to take baths in milk to maintain her youthful looks. The lactic acid in the milk is a big help in chemical peels. Knowing this, perhaps this explains why, according to Reader’s Digest, the number of chemical peels administered went up 25% in 2015 from 2014’s numbers. The numbers continue to increase as we move into 2017. But why are chemical peels seeing a resurgence today?
At Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics, we provide chemical peels as an efficient way for our patients’ dermatological needs. Compared to other treatments, chemical peels are low-tech, tried and true, and are not as intimidating as laser treatments. Additionally, these peels can address the same issues as lasers such as fine lines, wrinkles from sun damage or aging, and pigmentation conditions. A chemical peel is designed to remove layers of skin which help your skin become smoother and healthier. Peels can be applied to the face, neck, and hands.
The process is relatively straightforward. No pretreatment is needed for this multi-stage procedure. Sessions normally last 30 – 45 minutes. When the peel is removed, usually a stinging sensation remains for a brief period. If the patient chooses, an anti-inflammatory solution can be applied like Vaseline or Aquaphor.
At our offices, we provide two types of chemical peels for our clients. The first is Regenique which is used to target wrinkles and skin texture. It increases hydration, reduces hyperpigmentation, improves acne and scarring while minimizing edema from any surgical procedures. Additionally, patients considering Botox or other injectables often use Regenique leading up to the injections. This particular chemical peel helps the skin retain the material more efficiently, and for longer periods of time.
The second chemical peel we have at our disposal is the IMAGE I PEEL lightening lift. Typically, this peel is used to reduce pigmentation and redness caused by Rosacea. This peel also contains many natural ingredients such as aloe vera, bearberry, green tea, chamomile, and lactic acid.
If you wish to learn more about our chemical peels or any other services we provide, please contact Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics to set up an initial consultation. We can help you reveal youthful skin waiting just beneath the surface.
Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics would like to give a little bit more of an in-depth look at our microneedling process, which is a form collagen induction therapy that will leave the skin’s surface more supple and youthful-looking. Essentially, tiny, shallow perforations are precisely made with thin needles, relying on the body’s own healing and disinfecting process in order to treat facial acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics instead utilizes the SkinPen® procedure, which is gaining in popularity and represents a less invasive option in microneedling.
SkinPen® is manufactured by Bellus Medical. It’s a transient, non-surgical, minimally-invasive micro-needling appliance which creates “micro” punctures in the skin in order to improve appearance and reduce scars, wrinkles, and fine lines. SkinPen® is designed to be used by trained medical professionals such as those at Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics.
SkinPen® inspires your own body’s self skin repair by controlled induction, which works to rejuvenate the skin. SkinPen® can improve the effects of aging and scarring from acne.
SkinPen® is a fantastic option for those who do not wish to undergo extensive procedures such as ablative lasers. You won’t experience much downtime, if any. People of any skin type or skin color can benefit from SkinPen®, a procedure that can benefit wrinkles, scars, and fine lines when other methods prove ineffective.
SkinPen® is also incredibly versatile, a procedure that is most commonly used on the face, but can also be used on other areas of the body, like the neck and décolleté.
SkinPen® microneedling can be done at Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics in less than an hour, in most cases just 30 minutes! The procedure can also be done with ease and without discomfort. Your physician will only need to apply a topical anesthetic prior to the procedure, which will allow for a virtually pain-free experience.
Did we mention that there’s very little downtime with SkinPen®. Many people who receive treatment heal completely in 24 hours, but it’s reasonable to expect slight swelling and a certain amount of pinkness or redness for 2-4 days.
Your skin’s healing process is ongoing. You’ll notice results almost immediately. We’ll help you achieve healthier looking skin in three sessions. However, to treat more severe cases, more treatment sessions may be necessary. Your body’s natural healing process will continue to progress over time. You can expect to see your final results 3-6 months after your final session.
Of course number of procedures necessarily to achieve aesthetic enhancement ambitions are going to vary from patient to patient. All of our skin and healing processes differ, in some cases drastically. Most patients will receive a series of 3 treatments which will be spaced about 4 weeks apart. Not Just Faces will work with patients to create a custom-tailored aesthetic enhancement plan, and in home skin care with SkinFusion and creating realistic yet ambitious goals.
Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics will give you the compassionate and concentrated follow-up care that you need in order to enjoy lasting results. We can recommend which products can help enhance your healing process and bring out the radiant skin hiding underneath.
Lastly, SkinPen® is not recommended for women who are pregnant or are in the process of nursing. If you have prior health conditions, it’s important to consult with your own physician as well as Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics to make sure that the SkinPen® treatment will be safe and beneficial to you. You are a unique individual and we want to make sure that we tailor our treatment plan to suit your needs.
To learn more about microneedling and SkinPen® at Not Just Faces Medical Aesthetics, give us a call today and we’ll schedule your consultation. It’s absolutely free. We’ll go over all of our amazing skin treatments with you. You’re about to get a lot more comfortable in the skin you live in.
Meet Christine.
Christine was unhappy with how her face was aging.
She said she felt drawn and tired looking, making her appear older than she really was. In her own words, “I’ve lost my glow.” Christine had never had an aesthetic treatment before, so researching the right product was her first priority.
Christine is 53 and her TREATMENTS were 50 units Dysport in her vertical frown lines (laugh lines from the nose to mouth) and marionette lines. She said ” I was surprised at how natural I looked, and how much younger I felt. Sign me up – I will definitely get these treatments again!”
